Opposition attacks UP govt over Dalit lynching

Opposition parties condemned the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday after a Dalit youth died from mob violence in Raebareli on Oct. 2. Hariom was traveling to his in-laws' home when locals accused him of theft and beat him with sticks and belts. Police arrested five suspects after a video of the assault circulated online.

Congress State President Ajay Rai met the victim's family and criticized Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's administration for rising caste-based violence. Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad said the victim explained his destination, but the mob killed him despite living under the rule of law. Congress MLA Aradhana Misra-Mona cited national crime statistics showing Uttar Pradesh leads in offenses against Dalits.

Multiple opposition leaders accused the state government of enabling attacks on marginalized communities. Congress MP Manoj Kumar expressed personal anguish over violence targeting Dalit citizens. Senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari claimed Scheduled Castes face danger across BJP-governed states.
