Hippo Valley Sugar Company thinks next year will be better than 2024. They have enough water for their crops and better ways to grow sugar cane. They also did well in the first half of this year.
The company plans to sell more sugar. Its trucks can bring in sugar cane faster, and its machines can extract more sugar from each plant. Thus, it will have plenty of sugar for people in Zimbabwe to buy, and it can also sell sugar to other countries.
The government helped by making people pay extra money to bring sugar from other countries. This means more people will buy sugar made in Zimbabwe. Hippo Valley can keep selling sugar outside Zimbabwe because they make enough for everyone.
The company started a big project called "Kilimanjaro." They want to grow sugar cane on new land - about 4,000 hectares. They already picked sugar cane from 682 hectares. The government gave papers to 116 farmers to grow sugar cane on the rest of the land.
Canaan Dube, the company boss, says they'll make more money from better sugar cane. The plants grow well because they have enough water, and their machines work better at extracting sugar from them.
The company wants to be careful with its money. It plans to make enough cash to pay its bills without borrowing too much, which will help it start next year with fewer money worries.
But not everything went perfectly. They made less money than last year—about $13.7 million instead of $31.1 million—because of changes in money values. They spent $2.5 million on new tools and planting more sugar cane.
Still, Hippo Valley feels good about making more sugar next year. They have water, good machines, and new land to grow sugar cane. They think they can sell all the sugar they make, both in Zimbabwe and other countries.
