Oyo lawmakers probe bribery claims against majority leader

Politicians are throwing around bribery claims again at the statehouse. The Oyo State Assembly ordered its ethics committee to probe allegations against the majority leader, Sanjo Adedoyin. Fellow lawmaker Ibrahim Shittu accused Adedoyin of taking financial inducement from a local government chairman.

Adedoyin represents Ogbomoso South for the PDP, while Shittu is an APC member from Saki West. The majority leader denied the claims, stating he was falsely accused of accepting bribes to influence an investigation. Speaker Adebowale Ogundoyin warned assembly members against making baseless accusations.

He instructed the committee to conduct a full investigation and report back promptly. Shittu has previously clashed with the PDP-dominated chamber over other governmental matters. The dispute centers on claims about corrupt influence peddling involving local authority funds.
