Pakistan storms kill 4 as roofs crush children alive

Four people died, and 28 others sustained injuries after heavy rainfall and strong winds caused roof and wall collapses across Punjab province on Monday. Rescue officials reported that two children perished, and seven others were hurt when a roof collapsed in Tandlianwala, while one person died, and four suffered injuries in Nankana Sahib. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority recorded unprecedented rainfall levels over 24 hours, and the spokesperson warned that precipitation would persist across most districts over the next day.

Authorities placed all commissioners, deputy commissioners, and rescue teams on high alert as northern and northeastern regions from Rawalpindi to Lahore anticipated 50 to 70 millimeters of rain. Director General Irfan Ali Kathia urged residents to remain indoors and avoid low-lying flood-prone areas. The intensity of storms was expected to peak on Oct. 6 and 7, with rainfall extending into central districts.
