Federal authorities filed attempted kidnapping charges against Shahzad Hameedi, a 46-year-old naturalized American citizen from Pakistan who lives in Wayne County, Michigan. The defendant dated a single mother in Windsor, Canada, while using the false identity Sheraz Hameed. Hameedi planned to abduct her minor child after she limited his contact with the youngster in June 2025. Investigators found a laminated ransom note and discovered he had gathered kidnapping supplies like stun guns, zip ties, duct tape, and tranquilizer research. The man also obtained toddler life vests, rubber gloves, and strong cold medicine with funnels.
Hameedi secretly crossed into Canada and broke into the woman's residence during nighttime hours. He attempted to strangle the mother before fleeing the scene when confronted. The suspect returned two days later and physically attacked the child during another home invasion. Homeland Security Investigations and Windsor Police Service continue their joint investigation into these criminal activities. US Attorney Jerome Gorgon and Acting Special Agent Matthew Stentz announced the unsealed criminal complaint against the defendant.
