Panther Lake sips power, but loses speed

An early engineering sample for Intel's Panther Lake chip shows underwhelming results. The Core Ultra 7 365, a power-efficient model, posted Geekbench scores slightly below its Lunar Lake predecessor.

The chip scored about six to seven percent slower in both single and multicore tests compared to the Core Ultra 7 268V. This happens despite the newer processor having a higher thermal design power range. Both chips share a core configuration of four performance and four low-power efficiency cores.

Mainstream Panther Lake H series chips have shown better gains. This particular result may not be final, as it is an early sample. More benchmarks are needed to see if these efficient SKUs can truly beat the prior generation.
