Emmanuel Nkosinathi Mthethwa died after falling from the 22nd floor of a Paris hotel. The 58-year-old South African ambassador to France disappeared yesterday, and police found his body today near the Hyatt Hotel. His wife alerted authorities after receiving a troubling message from him. Officers discovered he had booked a room on the 22nd floor with a forced security window.
Authorities searched the Bois de Boulogne park with dogs after tracking his phone signal there, but found nothing. Mthethwa began serving as an ambassador in February 2024 and held the role of permanent delegate to UNESCO. He previously led South Africa's arts ministry from 2014 to 2019, then the sport and culture ministry through 2023. He served on the African National Congress executive committee from 2007 to 2022.
