Pasir Mas police seize RM2.3 million in Zon King cigarette smuggling chase

Marine police officers intercepted a major cigarette smuggling operation during a Tuesday morning raid in Kampung Alor Mengkuang, Pasir Mas. ACP Zulafendy Hassan led the operation after his team detected a suspicious three-tonne truck at 4 am near Chabang Empat. The vehicle operator refused police commands and attempted to flee toward Kampung Ana in Tumpat. Two escort cars carrying accomplices blocked the pursuing officers and nearly struck a motorcycle patrol officer. Police responded by shooting at the truck tires and escort vehicles during the pursuit.

The dramatic chase continued for thirty minutes before the truck collided with a parking barrier in Pasir Mas. The driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped on foot through the area. Officers discovered 114 cartons of Zon King cigarettes totaling 1.14 million individual sticks inside the abandoned truck. Authorities believe the contraband originated from a neighboring country and estimate its value at RM2.3 million with taxes. The investigation proceeds under both Customs Act and Penal Code provisions.
