A magistrate extended the remand period by two days for eight suspects detained in connection with a kidnapping case in Pasir Puteh. Magistrate Amirul Asyraf Abdul Rasid approved the police application on Sunday to continue investigations under several sections of the Penal Code and the Firearms Act. The suspects, who ranged in age from 20 to 46, appeared at the Kota Bharu Magistrate's Court wearing orange lockup uniforms with their faces covered.
Authorities arrested the group on Oct. 2 after conducting raids at six locations across Kota Bharu, Bachok, Pasir Puteh, and Tumpat. Police rescued a victim in his 20s who had been confined in an unnumbered house in Cherang Ruku on Sept. 26, and the suspects had demanded RM150,000 from his employer. Officers seized 15 mobile phones, three vehicles, an iron chain with five padlocks, face masks, cable ties, and clothing connected to the incident.
