Patapaa says the lack of support led Nigeria to lead the music

Ghanaian artist Patapaa has criticized the domestic music industry for failing to embrace his rhythmic innovation, which he believes allowed Nigeria to dominate the continental music landscape. The performer told Empress Gifty that his chant-based style anticipated the rhythm-focused approach later popularized by genres like Amapiano but faced ridicule rather than recognition at home.

The One Corner hitmaker contended that Nigeria capitalized on Ghanaian musical elements, particularly highlife influences, to craft globally successful Afrobeats while local talents remained unsupported. He argued that stronger backing for homegrown creativity could have established Ghana as the continental leader in musical innovation. Patapaa emphasized that the country must protect its artists before international markets continue profiting from their originality.
