The Royal Malaysia Police has relaxed several recruitment requirements for non-Bumiputera applicants regarding physical and academic criteria. Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah stated that this initiative aims to provide greater opportunities for non-Bumiputeras to join the force, ensuring its personnel reflect the nation's diverse communities. He emphasized that recruitment is based on merit, qualifications, health, and fitness, without any specific racial quotas.
As of a recent date, non-Bumiputera personnel constituted 5.55 percent of the police force. The deputy minister reiterated that the recruitment and promotion processes are free from racial or religious discrimination, involving transparent physical examinations, psychometric assessments, and vetting. Other uniformed agencies also reported specific numbers of non-Bumiputera staff, with the Immigration Department, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, and the Prisons Department all having such individuals in their ranks.
