Peace Games Bring Narok and Kisii Together

Leaders from Narok and Kisii agreed to hold peace games between fighting groups along their shared border. They reached this decision Friday at a joint meeting at Kiango, where Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen led talks. Murkomen visited the area hoping to end recent fights between communities. Many local officials joined the talks, including National Assembly Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro and Kilogoris MP Julius Sunkuli.

Education CS Julius Ogamba attended with several MPs - Obadiah Barongo, Rebecca Tonkei, and Doris Donya. The group also included Senators Gloria Orwoba and Esther Onyekuri, plus many county representatives. Police Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat came with regional leaders Abdi Hassan from Rift Valley and Florence Mworoa from Nyanza for the security discussions.

Murkomen praised everyone for working with security teams to bring back peace quickly. He announced plans to make the border safer by creating new administrative areas, adding more police posts, and bringing in extra officers. He promised road improvements along the border to help businesses grow and make security services easier to reach. The area will receive some of the 5,000 new vehicles being bought for police across Kenya.

The government wants stronger security at local levels and has created a policy to support village elders. This plan, currently open for public input, aims to boost community policing efforts. Murkomen ordered security forces to arrest criminals and break up gangs operating nearby. He told local chiefs to act quickly against illegal alcohol and drugs, which harm children and make the border less safe.

All leaders asked local people to live peacefully together as they had done for over twenty years before recent troubles. The new violence started on March 4, 2025, when youth groups clashed after someone reportedly stole a cow and calf from Kisii. People fought using bows and arrows, leaving eight injured and possibly three dead. The fighting happened mainly around Transmara West in Narok County and Bomachoge Borabu in Kisii County.

A previous emergency meeting helped calm the situation. Murkomen said he would lead another peace meeting in Empurkel Mosocho to ensure lasting peace in the area. These efforts show officials' continued commitment to resolving long-standing border tensions through dialogue and practical security improvements rather than force alone.
