Penang Mutiara Line LRT construction kicks off as Chow Kon Yeow issues green light

MRT Corporation issued work commencement orders to SRS Consortium on July 15 for the Mutiara Line light rail project in Penang. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow confirmed that construction activities will proceed across approved locations along the transit route. Workers will begin utility relocations, road expansions, foundation work, and site preparations at designated areas. The state government continues evaluating bids for the CMC2 section spanning Macallum to Penang Sentral plus rail system components.

Officials plan to establish public communication channels for major infrastructure developments. The transit system should reach completion by 2031 according to current schedules. SRS received the main civil contractor appointment for the CMC1 segment during January ceremonies. Authorities request community support throughout the implementation phase. The project represents a significant transportation upgrade for the state.
