Physical Audio released Tetrad, a new synthesizer plugin made with experimental musician Gadi Sassoon. The synth uses four modeled metal plates with attached sensors to create unique sounds. Musicians can build four-note chords or microtonal signals through the Quad Oscillators section.
The plugin sends audio through a 4x4 Matrix Mixer that blends voices across four channels. Three processors shape the sound after mixing. The Quad AM module changes volume levels and creates rhythmic effects through phase controls.
The Quad Granulator breaks audio into small pieces and rebuilds them with different grain sizes for each voice. Four metal plates physically model the vibrations from Sassoon's sculpture-based instrument. Each plate can be cut differently to change how it vibrates.
Users can place the four plates anywhere on a virtual sound stage before final output processing. The synth accepts external audio through sidechain inputs for processing effects. Tetrad works with MPE controllers and includes 115 factory presets.
The plugin costs $59 until July 28th, 2025, then increases to $99. It runs on Windows 11 and macOS 10.13 systems. Formats include VST3, Audio Units, and AAX for professional audio software.
