Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare visited Hakahana Commercial Printers on Wednesday. The company sits in Windhoek and belongs completely to Namibians. Managing director Max Hamata runs the business that employs about 140 workers. The staff covers mechanical engineers, electricians and interns. The company started more than five years ago.
Ngurare said the government backs Namibian companies and joint ventures. He believes nations grow stronger when businesses do well. The prime minister thinks government must help create good conditions for companies. When businesses succeed, they make jobs and bring peace to the country. This helps everyone in Namibia.
Hamata pointed out a problem with job creation. Publishers like Macmillan sell books to Namibia but print them in South Africa. Namibian taxpayers pay for these books, but the printing jobs go to South Africa workers. This means Namibia loses work opportunities to its neighbor. The company wants to change this pattern.
The printing company makes many different items. They produce books, health passports, receipts and police documents. Hamata wants to help government through internship programs. The company plans to recruit more interns as it grows bigger.
