PM Modi starts GST Utsav in India, cheaper autos, essentials

Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the commencement of GST Utsav on Monday, coinciding with Navratri celebrations. The announcement promises reduced prices for consumers as revised tax rates take effect nationwide. Modi described the initiative as a savings celebration benefiting all Indians through lower costs on popular products. The reforms will particularly assist economically disadvantaged citizens and emerging middle-class families. Citizens can purchase preferred items at decreased rates under the new taxation framework.

The government introduced a simplified two-tier system featuring rates of five percent and eighteen percent for most goods. Luxury and sin products face a forty percent rate under the restructured model. This represents the most significant indirect tax modification since the original GST implementation in July 2017. The GST Council achieved unanimous agreement between federal and state authorities during their recent meeting. These changes aim to reduce commodity prices while stimulating industrial growth and strengthening national economic performance.
