PNM's First Female Leader Beckles Vows to Fix Party, Rip Gov't Apart

Pennelope Beckles made history Sunday when she took control of the People's National Movement. She became the first woman to run the party since it started almost 70 years ago. The big moment happened at City Hall in Port-of-Spain during the party's National Convention. Beckles promised to lead with honesty and care for everyone. She wants to focus on helping women and young people most of all.

The new leader told old supporters who stopped backing the party to come back home. She said the PNM needs their smart ideas and honest opinions to move forward. Beckles also asked people who never voted for them before to give the party another chance. She promised this marks a fresh start with better leadership. The politician wants to win back people's hearts and trust, not just elections.

Beckles plans to change how the party works at Balisier House headquarters. She will meet regular people there on special public days every month. The building will host art shows, training camps for kids, and classes for women. Party meetings will happen outside the capital city for the first time ever. She mentioned San Fernando, Mayaro, Chaguanas, and Tobago as future meeting spots.

The PNM leader attacked the current government hard during her speech. She said almost 15,000 workers lost their jobs in just two months. Beckles claimed the ruling party has no real plans to fix major problems. She warned that government officials might target people with personal attacks next.
