Police have called in a top official from Kano Road Maintenance Agency for questioning about defamation claims. Aminu Rabilu Tela must appear before officers on Monday morning at 10 AM. The summons came through a letter dated June 10 from Assistant Commissioner Mohammed A. Wakil. Officers want to interview Tela at Command Headquarters on Bank Road in Kano. The letter told KARMA's managing director to release Tela for the meeting.
Police said they are looking into a defamation case that someone reported to them. The letter mentioned two laws that give police power to call people for questioning. Officers did not name who made the complaint or what the defamation involved. They said the case follows proper legal steps. An officer called ACO II will handle the interview when Tela arrives.
Tela told reporters he received the police letter and will show up as requested. He said he does not know who filed the complaint against him. Tela thinks the case might stem from fights between religious scholars who support Kwankwasiyya. He believes some people are trying to silence him and others through police involvement.
