Police officer charged with selling over 30 sets of uniforms

A police officer faces criminal abuse of office charges after prosecutors accused him of selling more than 30 police uniforms to fellow officers. Muteswa Shamain Dzingai appeared before Harare regional magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa on Tuesday and received $200 bail with a return date set for November 25.

Authorities say Justice Chasiya asked Dzingai for riot pants, tactical caps, and grey shirts in September 2025 before paying $1,000 for the items. Chasiya then sold the uniforms to other officers despite regulations that prohibit the commercial sale of state property.

Police arrested Chasiya on October 23 for illegally trading uniforms. He identified Dzingai as his supplier when questioned by investigators.

The Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage filed the complaint through representative Christopher Lloyd Tarenyika. Officers must protect government equipment from unauthorized distribution under their employment terms.
