Nairobi Police Officer Denied Bond in Murder Case of Colleague

A cop killer stays locked up after a judge refused to let him walk free on bail. Police officer Kipkosgey Limo faces murder charges for shooting his buddy Eric Muga dead at a Gigiri bar back in March. The gunman also wounded another officer named Philip Kae during the same attack. Justice Kanyi Kimondo made the tough call on Tuesday to keep Limo behind bars until his trial starts. The judge worried that Limo might skip town or mess with witnesses who could testify against him.

Prosecutors fought hard to keep Limo locked up because they thought he would run away from court. They told the judge that Limo already proved he was a flight risk when he hid under a car after the shooting. Police had to use teargas to force the killer out from his hiding spot underneath the vehicle. Limo claimed he was just protecting himself from angry people who wanted to hurt him. The court did not buy his excuse and decided he was dangerous to release.

The judge pointed out that many witnesses used to work alongside Limo on the police force. He said these cops might feel scared to tell the truth if Limo was walking around free. Court officials want to speed up the murder trial to give everyone justice faster. The next court date happens on July 30 for pretrial meetings.
