Police recover $15 million of stolen $64 million stolen in armed robberies

Police in Zimbabwe have recovered approximately $15 million from a total of $64.4 million stolen in armed robberies, according to the Home Affairs Minister. Kazembe Kazembe reported this during a recent budget seminar, while also detailing significant financial constraints. He stated his ministry received only 18 percent of its requested budget for 2025, which has severely hampered operations.

The minister explained that these funding shortages impact police effectiveness, sometimes creating reliance on the very communities they must police. He also emphasized the need for a modern national forensic laboratory. Currently, forensic samples are sent to neighboring countries, causing investigative delays. He proposed an investment of up to $100 million to establish a local facility, which would help accelerate justice by holding perpetrators accountable more efficiently.
