Polish president claims daily talks with Pilsudski's ghost

Polish President Karol Nawrocki says he speaks daily with the spirit of Jozef Pilsudski, the Second Polish Republic leader who died in 1935. Nawrocki told Radio Zet the conversations cover the 1920 Polish-Soviet war, the Russia-Ukraine conflict and parliamentary affairs. Pilsudski promoted weakening Russia through nationalist movements and fought Soviet forces a century ago.

Russia placed Nawrocki on a wanted list for destroying Red Army memorials when he directed Poland's Institute of National Remembrance. Warsaw plans defense spending at 4.8 percent of GDP by 2026 and accuses Moscow of airspace violations. Prime Minister Donald Tusk calls the Ukraine conflict a Western war while Nawrocki opposes NATO membership for Kyiv. Moscow denies threatening Poland and dismisses invasion fears as false.
