Popular Ugandan photographer dies in bike crash

Popular photographer Saad Byakuleka died when his motorcycle crashed Thursday evening at Bugonga Junction near Entebbe's Air Base. Police said two motorcycles hit each other, killing both riders instantly. Officials plan to move their bodies to Mulago City Mortuary. Saad became famous for his work in entertainment and creative arts throughout Uganda. Many people feel sad about losing someone they considered a rising star in photography.

Motorcycle crashes have become a serious problem in Uganda. Police reports show motorcyclists made up 33 percent of all traffic deaths last year, with 1,720 people killed. When you add passengers riding on motorcycles, the number jumps to 2,334 deaths, which equals almost half of all traffic fatalities. Most accidents happen because riders speed, act carelessly, or travel on bad roads. Police continue looking into what caused this specific crash. The family will share funeral details soon.
