POTRAZ pushes phone registration to curb cybercrime

Zimbabwe phone bosses want all cell phones signed up for safety reasons. POTRAZ asks the government to make everyone list their phones with the state. This would help stop bad people from using phones to commit crimes. Under this new plan, all SIM card users must link their phones to their names.

Engineer Hasha Myambo from POTRAZ talked about making a big list of all the phones in the country. He thinks this phone list will work with the SIM card list they already have. Both lists together will make it harder for thieves to use stolen phones. The system can block lost phones from working on any networks in Zimbabwe.

Myambo said people stay at risk without this phone tracking system. More Zimbabweans use phones for money and shopping each day. Bad guys know this and try to trick phone users. POTRAZ talks with phone companies about the best ways to set up these new rules. They look at what other countries do that works well.

The phone boss stressed the need for different groups to collaborate on tech safety plans. He wants banks, shops, and phone companies to join forces against cyber criminals. This team effort would help keep money safe and businesses growing. With this new idea, POTRAZ will change how it monitors phone companies.

The old way had POTRAZ making rules alone and checking if companies followed them. Their new way brings everyone together to help make better plans. They hope this builds trust in digital money and keeps Zimbabwe tech moving forward. Safe phones mean more people will trust buying things and sending money through their phones.
