POTRAZ turns post offices into innovation hubs in connectivity drive

Zimbabwe launches a nationwide initiative converting traditional post offices into technology hubs that will foster digital innovation across the country. The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe announced this transformation during the World Summit on the Information Society held in Geneva. Director General Gift Machengete outlined how these renovated facilities will become spaces where citizens can develop digital products and receive mentorship. The program specifically targets communities with limited access to modern infrastructure and technological resources. Rural areas will benefit from these excellence centers that aim to reduce the digital gap between urban and remote populations.

The government simultaneously addresses telecommunications infrastructure by redistributing tower locations from congested areas to underserved regions. Network providers will share infrastructure resources to expand coverage more efficiently. Policymakers are developing frameworks that encourage innovation through favorable tax structures and monetary policies. Financial regulators and tax authorities will collaborate to create supportive environments for technology adoption. The administration has begun signing partnership agreements with various stakeholders while establishing a comprehensive regulatory system to oversee the digital transformation process.
