Power moves, Somelec goes fully digital

The Mauritanian government just rolled out a bunch of online tools for dealing with the national power company, Somelec. You can now handle your electricity stuff through the "My Services" portal. The big announcement went down in Nawakchout, with the digital transformation minister Ahmed Salem Ould Bode and the energy minister Mohamed Ould Mohamed Melainine Ould Khaled doing the honors.

Basically, you can avoid going to an office in person for most things. The digital package lets people sign up for a new service, cancel an account, or switch a subscription to a different address. It also handles paying your bill, reporting an outage, and checking your power usage automatically. The whole point is to skip the trip and get things done faster.

This is part of a bigger government push called the Supporting Sector Digital Transformation program. The goal is to make dealing with the state less of a hassle by putting important services online all day, every day. It is a step toward modernizing how citizens access basic necessities.
