Power sector lights up under Tinubu’s reform surge

One advocacy group is actually praising the government's work on the power grid. The Network of Advocacy for Positive Impact Initiative commended the Tinubu administration's visible reforms in the electricity sector, calling it a meaningful transformation after years of corruption and inefficiency. The group's Executive Director, Comrade Williams Bassey, acknowledged the economic pain from broader policies but argued they were necessary, stating the power sector stands out as particularly impactful.

Bassey said his organization conducted independent checks, visiting sites like the Lugbe and Kubwa substations around Abuja, where they observed extensive upgrades, including new transformers, transmission lines, and critical equipment. He credited President Tinubu, Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu, and Transmission Company head Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz for leadership, highlighting the deployment of digital SCADA systems as a major shift from outdated analog operations. He noted over ninety transformers installed in the capital and about one hundred seventy-five new substations nationwide, helping push generation and transmission to roughly fifty-eight hundred megawatts.

The group expressed hope that these infrastructure improvements will make national grid collapses a thing of the past. To maintain progress, Bassey urged the National Assembly to ensure proper budget allocations and timely funding for the power sector, calling on the ministry and TCN management to keep up the reform pace through 2026.
