Precious Achiuwa crawls back to the Miami Heat

The Miami Heat signed Precious Achiuwa to a non-guaranteed contract after his disappointing first tenure with the franchise. The forward returns under vastly different circumstances than his 2020 draft selection as the 20th overall pick from Memphis. Heat officials traded Achiuwa to Toronto for Kyle Lowry following struggles with shooting accuracy and size limitations at his position.

President Pat Riley faces minimal financial risk with the Exhibit 9 deal that provides emergency frontcourt depth. Achiuwa must compete for a roster spot during training camp beginning on Sept. 30 at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. The contract offers limited injury protection, and salary cap implications only apply if he makes the opening night roster. His second chance allows both the player and the organization to pursue redemption without being bound by previous expectations.
