Priest Murder Suspect Cornered in Kerio Valley

Police caught one main suspect who killed Catholic priest Fr Allois Cheruiyot Bett. Residents cornered the man at Tot hospital where he tried to hide from angry locals. Community members handed him over to special police teams hunting the killers. County Police Commander Peter Mulinge said officers continue searching for more criminals. Three other suspects remain free across Kerio Valley.

Chesongoch Mission Hospital closed after workers fled the dangerous area. Police gave the community four days to surrender the killers but time ran out Thursday. Deputy Police Inspector Eliud Lagat warned about using force against anyone protecting criminals. Community elders had asked for extra time to help catch the murderers. Special investigation teams now camp across the region hunting remaining suspects.

Church leaders plan to bury Fr Bett on Tuesday June 3 at Holy Family Parish. Bishop Dominic Kimengich announced funeral plans for the 35 year old priest. Three regional governors asked local people to help arrest the criminals. Governor Wesley Rotich apologized and said individuals committed the crime not the whole community. Leaders want justice for the murdered priest and peace across Kerio Valley.
