South Africa sends a young cricket team to Zimbabwe for their first visit since 2014. Coach Shukri Conrad picked 16 players for the two Test matches at Queens Sports Club from June 28 to July 10. The squad features five players who have never played Test cricket before. Captain Temba Bavuma leads the group after several star players received rest time. The team wants to give new talent chances against Zimbabwe during this tour.
Conrad rested Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs to manage their playing schedules. Three newcomers earned their first national team calls: Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Lesego Senokwane and fast bowler Codi Yusuf. Pretorius scored three centuries during domestic cricket at age 19 and averaged over 72 runs per game. Senokwane also performed well with two centuries during the same season. Both young batsmen recently played for South Africa A against West Indies A teams.
Dewald Brevis and spinner Prenelan Subrayen join the squad as other uncapped players who have been around senior teams before. Zubayr Hamza returns to Test cricket for the first time since February 2024 against New Zealand.
