Protesters block Pragati Sharani, demand Hasina’s extradition

Protesters in North Badda ended a road blockade on Pragati Sharani after about an hour. They had demanded India hand over fugitive convict Sheikh Hasina and the people who attacked Osman Hadi. The group, called July Oikya, warned of more severe actions if the assailants are not sent back from their suspected refuge in India.

The demonstration began with a march toward the Indian High Commission in Gulshan, but police stopped them. Hundreds then staged a sit-in on the road. A student leader addressed the crowd, stating their nonviolent protest was a message against any foreign dominance over Bangladesh. They chanted slogans criticizing what they called Indian expansionism.

The blockade caused major traffic jams across the Badda, Gulshan, and Notun Bazar areas for nearly two hours, stranding vehicles. Police removed barricades around five in the evening, allowing movement to slowly resume amid lingering congestion.
