PSV Drivers Forced to Wait Govt Raises Age to 30

The government has set a new age limit for drivers of public service vehicles: at least 30 years old. This change starts immediately.

The goal is to reduce fatal accidents on the roads. Zimbabwe has over 2,000 road traffic deaths each year. Negligent driving is a major cause.

Transport Minister Felix Mhona announced the new rule. Drivers must have at least five years of experience to qualify. The rule is part of the Road Traffic Act.

Existing drivers between 25 and 30 years old can still drive. They were authorized before the new rule took effect.

The government made this change to improve road safety. Minister Mhona said last year that bus and kombi drivers would have to be at least 30 years old. This was to reduce traffic accidents caused by reckless driving.

The new age limit is similar to rules in other regions. Transport operators support the change, believing it will make the roads safer.
