Putin puts guns on pause for Easter truce

Putin announced a brief Easter truce in Ukraine lasting only 30 hours. He ordered Russian forces to pause fighting but stay ready for any attacks. Ukraine agreed to match Russia's actions exactly during this time. President Zelensky noted that some areas became quieter but claimed Russia continued using drones elsewhere.

Ukraine still wants the full 30-day ceasefire they already accepted from an American proposal. Foreign Minister Sybiha expressed doubt about trusting Putin based on past experiences. The US has tried talking directly with Russia to end the war that started in February 2022. Hundreds of thousands have died since the invasion began, mostly soldiers from both sides.

President Trump warned that America might stop trying to broker peace talks unless progress happens very soon. Secretary Rubio stated they won't spend months on these efforts because they have other important matters to handle. The UK government urged Putin to show real commitment through a complete end to his invasion rather than just a short pause. Previous ceasefire attempts failed when both countries couldn't reach an agreement.
