Qin, Walsh, Grousset find redemption with world titles in Singapore

Qin Haiyang secured China's inaugural swimming gold medal at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore by claiming victory in the men's 100 meter breaststroke event on Monday. The 26 year old swimmer finished with a time of 58.23 seconds and defeated Italy's Nicolo Martinenghi by 0.35 seconds. Denis Petrashov from Kyrgyzstan earned bronze with 58.88 seconds. Qin acknowledged that injury recovery limited him to approximately 70 percent of his peak performance level. The athlete expressed strong enthusiasm for pursuing individual Olympic gold at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Gretchen Walsh dominated the women's 100 meter butterfly competition and established a new championships record with her 54.73 second performance. The American swimmer achieved her first individual World Championships gold medal after previously winning silver at the Paris Olympics. Belgium's Roos van Otterdijk claimed silver at 55.84 seconds and became her nation's first swimming medalist at World Championships since 1998. Australia's Alexandria Perkins won bronze with 56.33 seconds. France's Maxime Grousset captured the men's 50 meter butterfly title at 22.48 seconds.
