Rahul Gandhi mourns Kolkata rain deaths, blames flood, not wires

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi offered sympathy to bereaved families after deadly electrocution incidents struck Kolkata during severe flooding. The politician urged party members across Bengal to assist flood victims while requesting swift government intervention from both state and central authorities. His social media message emphasized the widespread devastation affecting Kolkata and other West Bengal regions. Gandhi called for immediate restoration of normal conditions across flood-affected areas. Political solidarity emerged when CPI(M) general secretary MA Baby expressed similar grief over the tragic deaths.

Heavy rainfall claimed approximately ten lives through electrocution across West Bengal, with eight fatalities occurring within Kolkata city limits. The meteorological department recorded 252 millimeters of precipitation within five hours on Tuesday evening. River Hooghly's high tide coincided with peak rainfall periods, creating extensive waterlogging throughout urban areas. Transportation networks faced complete paralysis as metro services and train operations ceased operations. Recovery efforts began Wednesday morning as weather conditions showed marked improvement across the affected metropolitan region.
