Railways doles out Rs 1866 crore bonus, Vande Bharat sleeper tease

The Union Cabinet approved a Rs 1,866 crore Productivity Linked Bonus for railway workers on Wednesday. This decision benefits more than 10.90 lakh employees across the nation. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the bonus equals 78 days of wages per eligible worker. Each staff member can receive up to Rs 17,951 maximum under this scheme.

Track maintainers, locomotive pilots, station masters, supervisors, technicians, and ministerial staff qualify for these payments. Railways achieved record performance during 2024-25 by transporting 1614.90 million tonnes of cargo and 7.3 billion passengers. The previous year saw similar bonuses totaling Rs 2,029 crore for 11.7 lakh employees.

Vaishnaw also revealed that Vande Bharat Sleeper trains will launch shortly. The first train completed testing at Delhi's Shakur Basti depot while the second train reaches completion by mid-October. These 16-coach trains travel at 180 kmph and accommodate 1,128 passengers with modern facilities.
