Real Madrid Hit as Benfica Nixes Carreras Switch

Benfica president Rui Costa surprised Real Madrid supporters about Alvaro Carreras. The club leader said no deal exists between the teams for the young defender. Spanish newspapers had claimed Madrid was close to signing the player. Costa made clear that reports were wrong about any agreement.

Real Madrid moved their attention to the Club World Cup tournament. The Spanish giants stopped talking seriously about bringing Carreras to their team. Costa told reporters that Carreras stays with Benfica for their Club World Cup games. The player remains focused on helping his current team succeed.

Several clubs have made offers for the talented fullback. Benfica has turned down every proposal they received. Costa explained that none of the bids impressed the Portuguese club enough to accept. The transfer window could still bring new developments for Carreras.
