Remedy's CEO deflects FBC Firebreak failure with Control sales

Remedy Games disclosed disappointing commercial results for FBC: Firebreak in their latest financial statement. The Finnish studio acknowledged that subscription platforms generated most player engagement rather than direct purchases. Steam sales failed to meet company expectations despite reaching one million total users across all platforms. Players initially abandoned the game quickly due to poor onboarding systems and negative reception.

CEO Tero Virtala explained that subsequent updates improved player sentiment and review scores. The developer designed FBC: Firebreak as an evolving online experience requiring ongoing content additions. Revenue streams depend heavily on Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus agreements rather than traditional sales. A major content update arrives in late September to address player concerns.

Control achieved five million lifetime sales after Remedy regained full publishing rights earlier this year. Alan Wake 2 maintains a steady sales performance and continues generating royalties for the studio. Control 2 development is progressing according to schedule, with a reduced budget compared to previous projects. The Max Payne remake collaboration with Rockstar Games advances steadily through 2025.
