Restoration of ancient pagoda and cave completed ahead of monsoon season

Workers finished fixing two ancient religious sites that got smashed during the big earthquake. The Department of Archaeology and National Museum announced that Kyaiklat Chaung Pagoda and Tilokaguru Cave look good as new after months of repairs. Teams rushed to complete the restoration work before heavy rains arrived. The sites sit in Sagaing Township and contain priceless artwork from centuries ago. Government experts wanted to save the buildings before weather damage made things worse.

A photography group called Heart of Bagan spotted the earthquake damage first. They took pictures of cracked walls and broken structures at both locations. The group asked government officials for permission to start emergency repairs. Someone donated cash to fund the restoration project. Department engineers jumped into action after receiving the money and approval paperwork.

Kyaiklat Chaung Pagoda houses beautiful wall paintings from the old Pinya period. Tilokaguru Cave displays different artwork from the Nyaungyan era. Both sites showcase rare historical art that survived hundreds of years until the earthquake hit. The Mandalay earthquake damaged 1,641 ancient pagodas, caves, and religious buildings across the region. These two locations became the first ones to get completely restored before monsoon season starts.
