Retirement age proposal under review

A proposal to extend the civil service retirement age to 65 would primarily affect those under the permanent appointment with the contribution scheme, according to the Congress of Union of Employees in the Public and Civil Services president, Datuk Adnan Mat. He clarified that the matter remains under government review and no decision has been finalized.

The suggestion to raise the retirement age was largely driven by the Employees Provident Fund's recommendation, aiming to help contributors accumulate sufficient savings. Adnan Mat noted that Cuepacs is currently studying the projected savings for employees under this contribution-based system, but maintains its official position supporting the current retirement age of 60. He stated that the scheme's structure and retirement benefits would be finalized as a single package. The Public Service Department confirmed that stakeholder consultations on the proposal are ongoing.
