Rhodes Music launched the Rhodes Custom Shop, a new division producing limited-edition MK8 pianos with distinctive visual designs inspired by popular culture. The company hand-builds each instrument in small quantities determined by customer demand during brief ordering periods. Master craftsmen individually number each piano and never reissue designs after sales conclude.
The inaugural model, American Classic, draws inspiration from the 1965 AC Shelby Cobra automobile. The piano features Guardsman Blue finish with Wimbledon White racing stripes, chrome front panel, black tolex base, and walnut logo plate. Rhodes maintains the standard MK8 specifications with a precision Kluge Klaviaturen keyboard, analog preamp, parametric EQ, and stereo effects section.
Customers can order the American Classic for 48 hours through the Custom Shop website. The piano costs £11,995 plus VAT, €13,995 plus local taxes, or $15,995. MIDI functionality adds £1,299 to the base price. Rhodes accepts custom design consultations for personalized instruments.
