Rhodes Vari-Amp plug-in offers classic warmth and colour

Rhodes Music has released a plugin that models six electric piano preamp circuits alongside eight amplifier designs and eight microphone types for processing keyboards, guitars, vocals and other instruments. The Vari-Amp software reproduces circuitry from instruments spanning multiple decades, from the 1979 MK1 Suitcase through modified versions to the contemporary MK8 model.

The processor uses separate modules for preamp and amplifier stages with independent dry and wet signal mixing at each point. Three saturation modes provide harmonic coloring while a compressor offers parallel blending with adjustable signal path placement. Global equalization and reverb sections shape overall frequency response and spatial characteristics. Input level changes affect how the virtual circuits respond and generate harmonics. The company says the software adds character to individual tracks or complete mixes through authentic analog modeling.

Amplifier emulations feature the Duo, 8015 Combo, L5 and others while microphone models cover dynamic, condenser and ribbon designs. The plugin supports VST2, VST3, AU and AAX formats at standard prices of $124.95, 99.95 pounds or 114.95 euros. A promotional reduction of 30 percent applies through Monday, November 10, lowering costs to $89.95, 69.95 pounds or 79.95 euros.
