Ringtone Dodges Court Again Goes Virtual Plea

Singer Alex Apoko, known as Ringtone, will answer fraud charges through a video link after missing many court dates. He faces accusations with Alfred Juma Ayora about tricking a woman out of her Karen land worth over Sh50 million. The case moves slowly because Ringtone never appeared to enter his plea. Ayora already told the court he did not commit the crime. Ringtone missed his first court date on March 28 and several others after that.

His lawyers claimed he stayed at Trinity Care Centre and later moved to a hospital in Kasarani. On May 13, another lawyer said Ringtone remained sick, which annoyed Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego. She refused to cancel the arrest order against him since he never formally entered the case. Police found Ringtone at the Kasarani hospital, and staff there agreed to share updates about his health. The court wants him to answer charges through video to stop further delays.

Magistrate Alego agreed to this plan and set August 6 for the next court date. She asked the public prosecutor to help decide what happens next with the case. The court mentioned problems with different lawyers appearing and the lack of seriousness shown. Everyone hopes the video option will finally move the case forward after weeks of waiting.
