Rizwana and Jahangir declare all out war on shopping bags

Government officials are getting tough on plastic bag criminals who ignore the nationwide ban. Environment Minister Syeda Rizwana Hasan told law enforcement bosses that repeated warnings have failed to stop illegal production and sales. The minister promised joint military and police forces will launch brutal raids against anyone making or selling banned polythene bags. Home Affairs boss Lt Gen Jahangir Alam Chowdhury ran the emergency meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat. Top cops and army commanders agreed to smash the illegal plastic trade once and for all.

The crackdown targets every part of the dirty business from factories to street vendors. Authorities will hunt down people who make, import, store, transport or sell the banned shopping bags. The environment chief wants local government workers and regular citizens to help catch the criminals. Police chiefs from across Dhaka attended the high-level planning session. Senior officials from multiple government departments promised to work together on the mission.

Enforcement teams have already started hitting plastic bag operations hard. Mobile courts in Kishoreganj filed criminal cases and grabbed illegal polythene from sellers. Raiders struck a secret factory in Narayanganj and cut off the electricity to shut down production. Police seized the electric meter to stop the criminals from restarting their operation. The government wants to destroy the entire underground plastic bag network before it damages the environment further.
