Robert F. Kennedy Jr. eyes ousting USPSTF over cancer screenings, PrEP

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. may dismiss the entire U.S. Preventive Services Task Force membership. The 16-member panel determines which medical screenings and prevention treatments receive free coverage under health insurance plans. HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon stated that officials have not finalized any decisions regarding task force changes. Kennedy recently canceled a scheduled meeting about heart disease prevention without providing reasons.

Conservative groups have criticized the task force for endorsing certain HIV prevention medications. Their recommendation triggered court battles that reached the Supreme Court level. The justices ultimately supported the existing coverage requirements for preventive health services. Kennedy previously replaced all members of a vaccine advisory committee with critics of immunization programs.

The Wall Street Journal revealed the potential task force overhaul plans. Medical professionals are concerned about disruptions to patients' access to preventive care. The current system ensures Americans receive screenings and treatments without financial barriers. Kennedy's future targets for health policy changes remain uncertain as his department continues reviewing existing programs.
