Robots enter Zim workplaces, jobs, and skills face remix

Zimbabwe and other African countries are rolling out robots and automated systems across factories, warehouses, and customer service operations to boost efficiency, but the shift is creating anxiety about job losses in places where unemployment already hits hard. Jacqueline Ntaka from Mviyo Technologies points out that local industries like food processing and mining are testing robotic arms and conveyor setups, while banks and telecom companies are throwing AI chatbots at routine customer questions.

The government is trying to prep people for this tech-heavy future through STEM programs and partnerships with universities, plus the Zimbabwe Centre for High Performance Computing is part of the plan. Experts say automation could actually generate jobs in coding and equipment maintenance if anyone bothers investing in training programs, and countries like Rwanda and Nigeria are already dumping money into robotics research.
