Rocky Dawuni's secret past as a teenage preacher in Ghana barracks

Grammy-nominated reggae artist Rocky Dawuni established a religious congregation during his teenage years while residing at military housing facilities. The musician gathered local children and constructed a worship space using palm fronds behind the barracks when he was seventeen years old. Catholic catechism classes during his childhood provided the foundation for these early leadership experiences. Dawuni organized regular Bible study sessions and delivered sermons to his young congregation members. These formative spiritual encounters later influenced his approach to creating music.

The artist describes his musical compositions as a form of ministry that promotes human unity and divine recognition. Dawuni has visited major religious landmarks worldwide, including the Al Aqsa Mosque and the Western Wall, during his spiritual explorations. He believes that God exists within every person regardless of their tribal, racial, or national backgrounds. The singer considers worship a personal expression that reflects individual identity and divine creation. His songs reflect these universal spiritual themes that transcend cultural boundaries.
