Roni finishes 42nd in the 400m hurdles at the Japan worlds

Najimul Hossain Roni represented Bangladesh as the nation's singular competitor at the World Athletics Championships held in Japan. The hurdler participated in the men's 400-metre hurdles event and secured 42nd position among all participants. His performance in the fifth heat resulted in a ninth-place finish with a recorded time of 52.47 seconds. Nigerian athlete Nathalian claimed victory in the same heat by achieving 48.37 seconds. Only athletes from Saint Kitts and Nevis, plus Macau, recorded slower times than the Bangladeshi runner.

The competition featured 44 total participants across five separate heats. Tournament organizers advanced the fastest 24 competitors to the semifinal rounds based on their preliminary performances. Roni established a new national milestone earlier this year by completing the 400-metre hurdles in 50.84 seconds during February competition. His achievement surpassed a three-decade record of 51.87 seconds previously held by naval athlete Abdur Rahim Naim. The versatile runner also captured gold medals at Summer Athletics events with a 52.30-second performance.
