Rosatom Brings Floating Nukes To Africa

Rosatom showed advanced nuclear power systems at the major African energy conference during May. The Russian state company brought floating reactors and uranium mining technology to Cape Town between May 20 and 22. Government officials from South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, and Kenya attended the three-day event. Energy company leaders across Africa visited the Russian display booth. The Enlit Africa 2025 conference featured the latest power generation equipment.

Russian experts demonstrated floating nuclear plants that work on water near coastlines. The RITM-200 reactor model attracted many visitors who wanted to learn about small nuclear systems. Company representatives explained how uranium extraction works through underground drilling methods. A special discussion panel covered 80 years of Russian nuclear development and future African projects. Vadim Titov from Rosatom International Network led the presentation for African delegates.

Titov highlighted two important anniversaries happening this year for nuclear power development. Russia celebrates 80 years of atomic energy work, and South Africa marks 60 years of their SAFARI-1 research reactor. Rosatom offers flexible nuclear solutions that could change how Africa generates electricity. Vladimir Aptekarev described floating power units as perfect for African coastal cities and remote locations. These mobile nuclear plants provide clean energy for areas without traditional power stations.
