Rubio and Israeli leaders condemn Macron as France recognizes a Palestinian state

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemned French President Emmanuel Macron's plan to recognize Palestinian statehood as reckless. Rubio stated the decision supports Hamas propaganda and undermines peace efforts. He described the move as disrespectful to October 7 attack victims. Macron announced France would formally acknowledge Palestine during September's UN General Assembly session. The French leader emphasized his commitment to Middle East peace and ending Gaza violence.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected Macron's announcement with harsh criticism. Netanyahu argued recognition rewards terrorism and risks establishing another Iranian proxy state. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar dismissed the French president's statement as ridiculous and unserious. Defence Minister Israel Katz characterized the decision as disgraceful surrender to terrorism. Israeli officials united against Palestinian state establishment, citing security concerns and historical claims to the territory.
